A traditional boat race, featuring teams from nearby villages, will be held as part of the historic Meiktila PhaungdawU Pagoda Festival. “The PhaungdawU Pagoda Buddha Pujaniya Festival is held annually during the month of Tawthalin. On the eighth waxing day of Tawthalin, the pagoda will be consecrated, while offerings will be made to monks and an alms-bowl offering ceremony and traditional boat race will also be held,” said a member of the board of trustees.

THE 143rd PhaungdawU Pagoda Buddha Pujaniya Festival will be held in Meiktila Township, Mandalay Region, from 19 to 29 September, according to a member of the pagoda’s board of trustees.

The festival will also feature alms-bowl offerings, a funfair and a market. During the festival, the ‘Aung Zabu’ theatrical troupe will perform at Aung Mingala Hall in Thirimingala Ward.
