TWO foreign nationals allegedly involved in online scam and gambling activities in Mongyai Township, northern Shan State, have been arrested along with equipment used for the operation.
On 26 August, authorities conducted an operation against illegal online scam operators between Manmaing and Mankha villages in Mongyai Township. A Chinese national and a Kazakhstani national, who reportedly fled during the operation, were arrested near Nali Village yesterday afternoon. Ten mobile phones were also seized.
Authorities said the suspects will face legal action under existing laws after the necessary investigations are completed, while the seized equipment will be handled in line with procedures.
The government said it continues to cooperate with neighbouring and regional countries and international organizations to combat online scams and illegal gambling and prevent such activities from becoming established in Myanmar. — MNA/KZL
