A magnitude 4.7 earthquake struck at 10:14:57 am Myanmar Standard Time on 23 August, according to the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology.
The earthquake was centred at a depth of 10 kilometres at 17.81° north latitude and 96.19° east longitude, approximately 32 miles west of DaikU and about 38 miles north-west of the Bago Seismological Station.
Although the earthquake is not expected to cause significant damage, aftershocks may occur. The public has therefore been advised to remain alert and take necessary precautions.
