Attention from youth has mounted to the Kalaw Astro Youth Camp 2026 where they can explore in person stars and planets in the night sky of Kalaw, away from the city light, pollution, said the Myanmar Astronomy and Science Enthusiasts Society (MASES).
The programme is designed for youths to have astronomy and STEM knowledge and opportunity to have hands-on experiences in studying the universe, said MASES. For astronomy and STEM enthusiasts aged between 18 and 35, the programme, which is organized by MASES, will be conducted in Yangon and Kalaw in two phases.
As the first phase, the Yangon workshop will take place on 5 and 6 September and basic concepts on the astronomy, STEM knowledge and city light pollution will be discussed. In second phase, Kalaw practical workshop will be conducted in mid-December, in which exploring of stars and planets from telescopes, basic astrophotography knowledge and practical works in the night sky will be carried out.
The applicant number is higher than expected, leading to the application period to close before the initial deadline 28 August, said MASES.
