Heavy rainfall caused a gtavel-filled retaining wall along Nampaw Creek in Nyaungpinkwin Village in Hsipaw Township, Shan State (North) to collapse on the morning of 8 August, resulting in water erosion in the surrounding areas.
The collapse diverted the water flow, damaging a combined bathroom and toilet at a resident’s compound and about 60 feet of a brick fencing wall at another house.
Security personnel, departmental officials and residents are working together to contain the erosion by placing sandbags and constructing barriers, while machinery is used to divert the watercourse. No locals were reported injured or killed in the incident.
