The Information and Public Relations Department in Gyobingauk Township, Thayawady District, Bago Region, held a proverb relay contest yesterday at the Community Centre as part of its reading promotion programme, which was conducted in collaboration with the Department of Basic Education.
A total of 15 students from Gyobingauk Basic Education High School participated in the contest, which was held alongside a wall poster and a book exhibition as part of the township public library’s reading promotion activities. Pyithu Hluttaw representative Daw Thandar Aung attended the event and encouraged the participants.
Township IPRD Head Daw Wint Nandar Htay said that the event was organized to broaden students’ knowledge beyond their school curriculum, foster creativity and critical thinking among young people, and help them understand traditional Myanmar proverbs and apply their meanings in everyday life.
Following the contest, the Pyithu Hluttaw representative and officials gave detailed explanations of the meanings and interpretations of the proverbs featured in the competition. Prizes were then presented to the winning students.
