DEPUTY Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation Dr Ye Tint Tun stated that 43 solar-powered water pumping projects are currently under implementation across nine regions and states, utilizing funds approved for the 2026-2027 financial year, during the 10th day of the Second Regular Session of the Third Amyotha Hluttaw on 25 June while responding to a starred question raised by Representative U Aung Kyaw Min from the Ayeyawady Region Constituency 4.
The deputy minister highlighted that since the 2022-2023 financial year, the ministry has been utilizing both Union funds and regional/state funds to implement 14 solar irrigation projects and 42 solar-hybrid projects. Furthermore, using the State Economic Promotion Fund, it has installed 374 individual solar tube wells in six regions and states, along with six solar water pumping projects.
To date, the ministry has accomplished 540 solar irrigation projects across 317 villages in 91 townships spanning 12 regions and states. Looking ahead, the ministry planned to expand these projects in the 2026- 2027 financial year, including 91 new projects.
The government also provides support to farmers who wish to purchase high-quality solar water-pumping systems independently.
“We arrange to enable farmers to install these systems through instalments or with low-interest rates,” he added. — TWA/ZN
