Union Minister for Cooperatives and Rural Development, U Myo Zaw Thein, stated that value-added food production training based on local crops has been conducted in Nay Pyi Taw and five other regions and states to foster the emergence of small-scale manufacturing businesses, and that equipment has been provided to outstanding trainees.
He made these remarks during the Workshop on the Development of Crop-Based Value-Added Food Industries, implemented under the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation (MLC) Special Fund (2024), held at the Horizon Lake View Resort in Nay Pyi Taw on 24 June.
The Union minister added that, in line with the ministry’s vision to contribute to national development by systematically fostering the cooperative sector and small-scale industries, the ministry has conducted two “Training of Trainers” sessions, as well as others on bakery and snack, bamboo shoot-based production, ice cream and various beverage production in Nay Pyi Taw, Magway, Mandalay, Yangon, Shan, and Ayeyawady. Five outstanding individuals per training course — totalling 75 trainees — were selected and provided with business-use equipment for their start-ups.
He also urged business owners to collaborate and discuss how to adopt new technologies, improve product quality, connect with markets, and export products.
