According to the Kachin State government, railway tracks and stations are under repair to enable the resumption of the Myitkyina-Mohnyin train service in July.
As part of the rehabilitation work, repairs are being carried out at the Nanma Station, Mohnyin Township. At Bridge 611, located between mileposts 642/17 and 642/18 on the section between Nanma and Myothitkalay stations, steel girders are being installed, bridge supports are being constructed and fitted, sleepers are being replaced, and railway tracks are being laid.
In addition, the installation of steel girders and railway tracks is underway at Bridge 615, located between mileposts 645/10 and 645/11 on the section between Nanma and Myothitkalay stations. Repairs to bridge piers and the installation of steel girders are also being undertaken at Bridge 627 between Hopin and Nankhwin stations.
Similarly, maintenance work is ongoing at the Hsamaw Station, including the addition of ballast to tracks at station entrances and exits, and the upgrading of sleepers.
Of the 89-mile Mohnyin–Myitkyina railway, the 36.75-mile section between Mogaung and Myitkyina remains in regular operation. Repair work on the 52.25-mile section between Mohnyin and Mogaung began on 23 March.
