YANGON City FC clinched the championship title at the 2026 Yangon Region Government Chief Minister’s Cup 5-A-Side Men’s Hockey Tournament after defeating Lion City FC with a 7-4 victory in the final match held yesterday evening at the Theinbyu Artificial Turf Hockey Pitch.

The final match was praised by Yangon Region Chief Minister U Aung Naing Thu, regional ministers, executive members of the Myanmar Hockey Federation (MHF), officials from the Department of Sports and Physical Education, and local hockey fans. During the award ceremony following the match, regional ministers presented individual medals and cash prizes to the tournament’s most improved player, best player, consolation prize winners, runner-up Lion City FC, and joint third-place finishers Anchor Club and the Myanmar Police Force. Chief Minister U Aung Naing Thu then presented individual medals, cash prizes, and the championship trophy to the tournament winners, Yangon City FC.

The tournament ran from 8 to 13 June, featuring around 70 athletes competing across six teams. According to officials, the tournament was organized by the Myanmar Hockey Federation to prepare and scout talent for the upcoming XXXIV SEA Games, which will include the 5-A-Side hockey format.
