China’s Yunnan Media Group and Myanmar’s Swe Myo Pauk-Phaw Magazine have announced a new strategic collaboration in the media sector.
Based on its overseas communication centre (the Lancang-Mekong Communication Centre), Yunnan Media Group will cooperate closely with Swe Myo Pauk-Phaw Magazine. Through high-quality, mutually-owned media platforms, they intend to jointly publish content favoured by the people of both nations. They will focus on “small but beautiful” projects related to the development of the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor, Pauk-Phaw friendship, culture and tourism, and public livelihood development.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony was held in Yangon on 27 May, with officials from both organizations in attendance.
Yunnan Media Group operates multiple radio and television platforms, including Yunnan TV, Lancang-Mekong International TV, and Jixiang Net. It broadcasts news to 18 neighbouring countries in seven languages and five cross-border ethnic languages. Swe Myo Pauk-Phaw Magazine, a primary Myanmar-language media outlet, was established in 2020 to commemorate the 70th anniversary of China-Myanmar diplomatic relations.
This partnership represents a new step that will strengthen cultural and social exchanges between Myanmar and China’s Yunnan Province, which serves as a central hub for China’s outreach to South and South-East Asia.
