MYANMAR’S offshore gas exploration project, which commenced this year, is expected to begin producing natural gas by the end of 2027, according to discussions held between Taninthayi Region Hluttaw Speaker U Myat Ko and representatives of CFG Energy Pte Ltd.

On 29 May, Taninthayi Region Hluttaw Speaker U Myat Ko met representatives of CFG Energy Pte Ltd to discuss natural gas production, including progress on the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), Social Impact Assessment (SIA), and regional development initiatives.

A production-sharing agreement has been signed with CFG Energy Pte Ltd, which has been granted the right to operate the offshore block and is expected to begin drilling by the end of this year.

The M-15 block project, operated by Myanmar Oil and Gas Enterprise (MOGE), is set to become Myanmar’s first deepwater gas project and is expected to contribute to the country’s social and economic development upon its successful implementation.

The M-15 block, which is believed to contain natural gas reserves of up to one trillion cubic metres, is located in Myeik District in southern Taninthayi Region. It covers an area of more than 13,000 square kilometres west of Kadan Island, the largest island in Myanmar. A Production Sharing Contract (PSC) was signed between Singapore-based Canadian Foresight Group (CFG) and Myanmar Oil and Gas Enterprise (MOGE) in March 2015. — Htun Htun/MKKS
