MYANMAR is also grateful to and appreciative of China for being the first to come and provide assistance and support after the devastating Mandalay earthquake occurred, said U Khin Yi, Speaker of the Pyithu Hluttaw, at a meeting with Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Myanmar Ms Ma Jia.

Yesterday morning, the Chinese Ambassador called on the Pyithu Hluttaw Speaker at the Pyithu Hluttaw Reception Hall of the Hluttaw Complex in Nay Pyi Taw.

At the meeting, the Speaker said that China has consistently supported and stood by Myanmar in the global arena. He continued that China and Myanmar support efforts to build a strategic partnership and a community that shares a good future. The Hluttaws of the two countries will also cooperate more closely and strengthen their ties.

He stated that Hluttaw of Myanmar emerged in 2025 through free and fair elections, resulting in the establishment of the three pillars of the State – the legislative, executive and judicial branches – and he was elected as the Speaker of the Pyithu Hluttaw, which represents the legislative pillar. The Hluttaw is an institution composed of representatives elected by the people in their respective constituencies in accordance with the will of the public.

The Pyithu Hluttaw has four major responsibilities: electing the Speaker, Deputy Speaker and Vice-Presidents, carrying out legislative processes, coordinating and cooperating among the three pillars of the State to ensure national development and the peace and security of the people, and serving as an intermediary representing the public so that the people can understand and cooperate with the policies of the government.

Four standing committees support the work processes of the Hluttaw, and temporary committees will also be formed during the upcoming Hluttaw term as necessary. Commissions and special task forces will likewise be established when required. At present, the government is making concerted efforts to implement its plans for the benefit of the people, and the Hluttaw wil also coordinate and participate wherever necessary. The government has been continuously carrying out investigations and arrests related to online fraud, and in order to effectively prevent and combat such crimes, a draft law on combatting online fraud has already been prepared. In addition, the Hluttaw will give priority during the upcoming second regular session to enacting the anti-online scam bill into legislation.

The Chinese Ambassador responded that in accordance with the 15th FiveYear Bilateral Cooperation Plan (2026- 2030), which will commence this year, cooperation will be further enhanced and efforts will continue to implement a China-Myanmar community that shares both good times and hardships. China has consistently supported and stood by Myanmar. The National People’s Congress of China was also the first to send a congratulatory message in support of the Hluttaws formed through the recent elections. Efforts will continue to further deepen relations between the Hluttaws of the two countries.

Also, present at the meeting were Deputy Speaker U Maung Maung Ohn, officials of the Pyithu Hluttaw Office and officials of the Chinese Ambassador.
