Ambassador to Thailand U Zaw Zaw Soe met a Myanmar migrant interpreter who was tortured at a construction company in Chonburi Province, Thailand, and stated that the embassy will provide assistance to ensure justice and the receipt of compensation under labour laws.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador U Zaw Zaw Soe, along with officials and labour attaches, met Ko Tha Tha, a Myanmar interpreter who had been tortured by the foreign owners of the company, on 8 May at the meeting hall of the Myanmar Embassy in Bangkok while he was receiving medical treatment. During the meeting, the Ambassador inquired about the details of the incident and the status of the legal case, and offered words of encouragement.

The victim is 27 years old and a native of Myitkyina. The Ambassador informed him that the embassy, the Labour Attaché Office, and migrant worker aid organizations will continue to collaborate to ensure justice under Thai labour law, to see that the perpetrators are prosecuted, and to secure appropriate compensation.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that the staff and families of the embassy provided financial support to Ko Tha Tha. — MT/ZN
