THE Japan Foundation, Yangon, has announced that an art movement titled What can art and artists do to raise awareness about the importance of disaster prevention and improve mental health? will be held in Mandalay on 21 and 22 March at the MABA Office, Water Street, Ward 6, Mingala Mandalay.
The foundation noted that in Japan, September is designated as disaster prevention month to commemorate the Great Kanto Earthquake (1 September 1923), which resulted in massive casualties, and disaster awareness activities are conducted across every city and village during this month.
Similarly, following the earthquake that struck Sagaing and Mandalay, Myanmar, in March 2025, the foundation aims to host these awareness programmes in the affected areas one year later.
The event will include collaborative workshop sessions where non-artists can also participate and exhibitions featuring paintings, sculptures, photography, and installations by local Mandalay artists. The foundation will hold discussions regarding the background and concept of the exhibition.
The exhibition is free and open to the public; however, those wishing to participate in the workshop must register in advance. Participants will be contacted individually, and limited space will be handled on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration link is https://forms.office.com/r/nNdz2Gt7gv.
