THE grandest space-themed painting, cartoon, and poster competition for basic education students in Myanmar is currently being held at People’s Square in Yangon. The three-day event is expected to draw more than 6,000 young contestants.
It is organized by the Yangon Region Government, the Myanmar Space Agency, and the Space Museum (Yangon). It runs from 27 February to 1 March. The schedule and themes are as follows: 27 February – High School Level – “Future Space Technology”; 28 February: Primary School Level – “Space Hero”; 1 March: Middle School Level – “Exploring the World of Space”.
Dr Cho Cho Myat Aung, deputy director-general of the Yangon Region Education Office, commented: “As this is the first-ever competition, the children are very excited. Starting today, we are hosting seminars where experts share their knowledge. Students will meet global space professionals and learn about robotic technologies. It provides immense motivation.” Participants will be evaluated based on scientific imagination, creativity, artistic skill, message clarity, uniqueness, and the harmonious blend of Myanmar’s cultural identity.
The awards ceremony will take place on 4 March. The cash prizes for first, second, third and 10 consolation awards are K500,000, K400,000, K300,000, K200,000 each for primary level; K700,000, K600,000, K500,000, K300,000 each for middle level; and K1,000,000, K900,000, K800,000, K500,000 each for high level, respectively.
