EFFORTS to combat illicit trade continue under the supervision of the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, ensuring actions are carried out in accordance with the law.

On 7 October, combined teams made several significant seizures: seven containers at the Asia World Port Terminal were found to be carrying industrial materials worth K142.996 million without proper documentation; four trucks, valued at K72 million, were intercepted near Hpa-an Industrial Zone carrying 11 types of foodstuffs, two types of consumer goods, and one type of industrial materials, all valued at K55.534 million, also lacking official papers. Additionally, two unregistered motorbikes worth K600,000 were seized in Magway District. The action was taken under Customs procedures and the Export-Import Law.

On 8 October, further inspections led to the seizure of five unregistered vehicles worth approximately K51 million in Bago Township. In Bago and Toungoo Districts, illegal timber operations were uncovered, resulting in the confiscation of 7.998 tonnes of teak, 0.598 tonnes of hardwood, and 0.718 tonnes of other timber, collectively valued at K4.942 million. The action was conducted under the Export-Import Law and the Forest Law. The Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee reported that a total of 28 arrests were made on 7 and 8 October, with illegal goods worth approximately K327 million being seized.
