RIVER flooding conditions are expected to end by early August, according to the meteorologist U Win Naing.
The water level in the lower reaches of the Sittoung River may fall within three days, while the upper reaches could continue to decrease. Meanwhile, water levels in the Sittoung and Thanlwin rivers showed signs of stabilizing, he said. Signs of receding water were observed in the lower Bago River and Ayeyawady (Magway), while stagnant flow was reported in Mon and Kayin states.
As a result, flooding conditions are expected to subside in the next three to four days, he forecast.
The flood alert level for the Sittoung River has stopped rising in Toungoo due to weakened rainfall. Inverted triangles, indicating receding water levels, were observed in the upper Sittoung, but the alert level in Toungoo could remain high (red level) until 10 August, he said.
