The Myanmar Coffee Association (MCA) held discussions with coffee associations and coffee businesses in Vietnam on 21 and 22 October on increasing bilateral trade, developing markets and exploring opportunities for economic cooperation.

The discussions covered the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology throughout the coffee value chain, from cultivation and production to marketing and export, to support the sustainable development of Myanmar’s coffee sector and expand its access to international markets. They also focused on sharing digital traceability systems to track the origin of products and each stage of production, as well as agricultural techniques that can withstand the effects of climate change.

In addition, the discussions addressed establishing direct business-to-business (B2B) links between Myanmar coffee growers, traders and international businesses, conducting joint research, providing vocational and advanced training courses, and creating scholarship opportunities.

The MCA will continue to work with international organisations to help high-quality specialty coffee from Myanmar gain greater access to global markets and improve the socioeconomic well-being of local coffee growers. — ASH/KZL
