The National Solidarity and Peace-making Negotiation Committee (NSPNC) held discussions in Nay Pyi Taw with representatives of political parties to advance sustainable peace and support the establishment of a democratic federal union. The meeting brought together Union Minister for Defence and NSPNC Chairman Lt-Gen Yar Pyae, Secretary Lt-Gen Min Naing, committee members, and political party leaders, including chairpersons, secretaries, executive committee members, and responsible officials.

Opening the dialogue, Lt-Gen Yar Pyae emphasized Myanmar’s multi-ethnic identity and reviewed the committee’s ongoing outreach to both signatory and non-signatory ethnic armed organizations under the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement. These negotiations have yielded 43 agreed points to amend the 2008 Constitution, which have been forwarded to the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw.

Lt-Gen Yar Pyae urged political parties to utilize their grassroots networks to foster social cohesion, counter divisive media narratives, and actively assist internally displaced populations. He specifically called for coordinated efforts to address resettlement, security, livelihoods, and transport challenges facing communities in Kayah, Chin, and Pa-O areas.

Representing the political parties, working group leader Dr Aung Myat Oo welcomed their expanded mandate, noting that their involvement had previously centred primarily on constitutional matters rather than direct peace negotiations. He stated that the restructured party bloc is committed to assessing the needs of conflict-affected populations and encouraging greater local public participation in the peace process.

The session proceeded with discussions on operationalizing the parties’ intermediary role. Delegates addressed plans for gauging public opinion on regional stability, connecting with external stakeholders capable of mediating talks, and formulating trust-building measures between armed organizations and the state. In his concluding remarks for the day, Lt-Gen Min Naing addressed party proposals, focusing on state peace policies, engagement with non-signatory armed groups, regional coordination frameworks, and media outreach strategies.

The meeting concluded its initial session and will resume for a second day of deliberations on 20 October.
