FEWER than one in 10 adults in Britain smoked cigarettes in 2025, the lowest proportion on record, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said Tuesday.
Around 4.9 million people aged 18 years and over, or 9.8 per cent of the population, smoked cigarettes in Britain last year, down from 10.6 per cent in 2024, according to estimates from the ONS Annual Population Survey.
The proportion of current smokers has fallen by 10.4 percentage points since the data series began in 2011, when 20.2 per cent of adults smoked. — Xinhua
