JAPANESE skincare product makers are working to protect children’s delicate skin by educating both children and their parents about proper care to help prevent skin problems throughout different life stages.

Fancl Corp began offering skincare consultations for kids in July, mainly targeting elementary and junior high school students aged 10 and over who visit its outlets with their parents.

Participants can receive explanations about their skin condition based on measurements of skin texture and moisture levels using a dedicated device.

They are also taught skincare methods suited to their individual conditions, such as applying emulsions to moisturize the skin after washing their faces and using sunscreens to protect against ultraviolet rays.

Children aged 8 to 12 have delicate skin that is vulnerable to ultraviolet rays and dryness, as their skin contains only one-third of the moisture and one-fifth of the sebum found in adult skin.

During adolescence, a rapid increase in sebum production caused by hormonal changes can lead to pimples, sometimes negatively affecting their feelings. — Kyodo
