FOUR people were arrested with electronic devices and cash while allegedly conducting online fraud and gambling activities at Win Cherry Hostel on Byuha Road in Thiri Maha Ward, Area 4, Lashio, northern Shan State, yesterday afternoon.
At about 3:05 pm, a combined team of security personnel and departmental officials searched Room 214 of the hostel following information about online fraud and gambling activities.
The team arrested Min Hwei Sin, Ma Hwe Phyu, Kaung Win Kyi, also known as Am Wei, and Thang Yin Shi, also known as Aphyin. The team seized four laptops, one all-in-one computer, seven mobile phones, two Wi-Fi devices and K475,000 in cash allegedly used in connection with the activities.
Legal action will be taken against the four suspects under Section 33(a) of the Electronic Transactions Law at Lashio Myoma Police Station. Relevant authorities are continuing efforts to prevent online fraud and gambling activities from taking root and to eradicate such activities. — 100/KZL
