Dense fog and mist are likely to occur in some sections of the Yangon-Mandalay Expressway annually from October to February, prompting the Expressway Maintenance, Repair and Supervision Team to advise drivers to reduce their speed and drive with caution.
Fog and mist commonly occur at night and in the early morning when temperatures fall and humidity rises, causing water vapour to accumulate on the road surface and the soil along both sides of the expressway.
The affected sections include five locations in the Yangon Region between mileposts 0/0 and 185/0, 13 locations in the Bago Region, five locations in Nay Pyi Taw between mileposts 185/0 and 365/3, and five locations in the Mandalay Region. see page 4
Warning signs featuring a vehicle entering dense fog in black on a yellow background have been installed before fog-prone sections to alert road users. Drivers who see the signs should be aware that foggy conditions may occur ahead.
As visibility can be limited in dense fog, drivers have been advised to use fog lights and headlights, reduce their speed and drive carefully. They are also urged to maintain a safe distance from vehicles ahead and pay close attention to road conditions. – TWA/KZL
