The two-day Kayin State Peace and Development Forum 2026 concluded yesterday at Zwekabin Hall in Hpa-an, following opening sessions held at the Kayin State Youth Centre.
Councillor of the Union Consultative Council Mahn Nyein Maung delivered the opening remarks on the second day. Discussions centred on papers addressing social welfare, education, healthcare, multicultural coexistence, and the impact of technology—including artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and combating misinformation through social media networks.
Across both days, participants formed four focus groups to draft action plans addressing critical regional priorities: halting armed conflict, building a peaceful society, rehabilitating conflict-affected communities, expanding jobs and local development, and fostering inter-communal harmony. Advisory team leader U Aung Min of the National Solidarity and Peacemaking Negotiation Committee (NSPNC), alongside youth leaders, offered recommendations before attendees adopted the forum’s final resolution statement.
Kayin State Chief Minister U Saw Myint Oo emphasized that the forum was designed not merely as a formal event, but as a practical platform to generate actionable roadmaps for socioeconomic progress, mutual understanding, and long-term stability for future generations. Senior officials, including Councillors of the Union Consultative Council and state cabinet ministers, observed the group deliberations and contributed feedback throughout the proceedings.
