MYANMAR hosted the Second ASEAN Digital Senior Officials’ Meeting (ADGSOM) and ASEAN Telecommunications Regulators’ Council (ATRC) and related meetings from 21 to 24 September at the Novotel Yangon Max Hotel in Yangon, led by the Ministry of Digital Development and Communications.
The meetings included the ASEAN Data Protection and Privacy Industry Engagement dialogue and the ninth ASEAN Data Protection and Privacy Forum, which discussed data protection, privacy, cybersecurity and secure cross-border data transfers in the era of artificial intelligence (AI).
The 32nd ASEAN Telecommunications Regulators’ Council Meeting and joint meetings with China, Japan and the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT) focused on telecommunications infrastructure development, radio-frequency spectrum management, emergency communications and AI applications.
The second ADGSOM and ATRC discussed network security, digital data governance, submarine cable resilience and measures to prevent online scams.
The meetings aimed to strengthen practical regional cooperation in building a trusted, inclusive and AI-driven digital ecosystem and to promote greater alignment of telecommunications and digital technology policies and laws among ASEAN member states.
ASEAN digital senior officials, representatives from ASEAN member states and the ASEAN Secretariat, and representatives from China, Japan and APT attended the meetings, with Myanmar serving as chair. — MNA/ KTZH
