Vice-President U Nyo Saw, who is currently in Nanning, the People’s Republic of China, accompanied by Union Minister U Tun Ohn and delegation members, arrived in Guangzhou yesterday afternoon. The Vice-President received Guangzhou Mayor Mr Sun Zhiyang of the Guangdong Province and exchanged views on the bilateral relations between the two countries, cooperation measures, and the promotion of maritime trade. On 18 September, the Vice-President visited the Madao hub of the Pinglu Canal in Qinzhou, which directly connects the sea to the river for cargo ship transit. Upon arrival, the Vice-President and party were welcomed by party and administrative officials of Qinzhou, who briefed them on the construction progress of the Pinglu Canal project, its anticipated benefits, and the navigational conditions for permitted vessels.
The Vice-President also observed the container port and jetties being operated through artificial intelligence (AI) in Qinzhou. Local authorities and port officials explained the docking of domestic and international vessels, the operation of the freight handling process by AI, the hi-tech innovation including digital technology, and the creation of linkages in the region with the use of modern technologies.
On the evening of 17 September, the Vice-President met Mr Wei Tao, Governor of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, at the Liyuan International Conference Centre. During the meeting, both sides held cordial and open discussions on enhancing bilateral relations, promoting cooperation, accelerating bilateral trade cooperation, and advancing the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative and the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor.
