To increase tourist arrivals to the Bagan Ancient Cultural Heritage Zone in NyaungU District, Mandalay Region, during the upcoming high season, tourism promotion programmes are being implemented, according to the Bagan Branch of the Department of Archaeology and National Museum under the Ministry of Culture, Hotels and Tourism.
In addition to the Bagan cultural zone, NyaungU has high-standard hotels capable of accommodating foreign tourists, and preparations have been made to welcome an increased influx of visitors.
“Regarding efforts to attract more tourists to Bagan during the upcoming high season, we are coordinating comprehensively with relevant administrative bodies, local hoteliers and entrepreneurs involved in the Bagan cultural zone. We are conducting awareness sessions, holding discussions and disseminating information about the region to the public so that domestic and international travellers can visit the area more conveniently,” said an official from the Bagan Branch of the Department of Archaeology and National Museum.
Furthermore, the department is carrying out maintenance activities, including clearing weeds that grew during the rainy season around the pagodas in Bagan region and maintaining environmental cleanliness and pleasant surroundings. Conservation and research work on ancient structures and mural paintings in the Bagan region are also being carried out in collaboration with foreign experts, according to reports.
