Officials from the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation and the Ministry of Construction, together with Tatmadaw personnel, firefighters and local residents, are jointly carrying out the erosion prevention and water inflow control measures in response to the subsidence of the Ngawun River embankment in Laymyethna Township, Ayeyawady Region.
To block the inflow of water and raise the riverbed level at the affected section, various mitigation measures are being implemented. These include deploying geotextile bags and geotextile tubes by watercraft; placing geotextile bags, jumbo bags, geotextile tube, rock cages and chained sandbags using cranes on both the river and land sides to reinforce sections where sheet piles have already been driven; pumping sand into the area between the inner bank and the sheet piles; and installing struts and support pillars for the sheet piles. Ayeyawady Region Chief Minister U Aye Kyaw and officials visited and inspected the collaborative operations yesterday afternoon.
Earlier that morning, at the guesthouse of the Irrigation and Water Utilization Management Department in Hinthada, the Visakha Foundation donated rice, cooking oil, soap, tarpaulins, tea and household items for flood-affected residents in Laymyethna Township. The family of U Tun Thein and Daw San Yi Fuel Trading and Myanmar Restaurant, also donated K50 million in cash assistance. The chief minister accepted the donations and presented certificates of appreciation to the donors.
