THE Ayeyawady Region traditional Kayin wrist-tying ceremony for the month of Wagoung was held yesterday morning at the City Hall in Pathein. The ceremony was inaugurated by Regional Chief Minister U Aye Kyaw, who struck the traditional frog drum (Phasi) nine times and delivered an honorary address. He also presented cash awards to the Kayin cultural dance troupes performing at the event.
Elders then tied white threads on the wrists of the Chief Minister and attendees according to Kayin traditional customs. On 5 September evening, the Chief Minister also received cash donations and relief supplies for flood-affected residents in the region, presented by the PyinOoLwin Funeral Service Association, town residents, and the Pathein Pyi Gyi Khin organization at Meeting Hall (1) of the Regional Government Office, before returning certificates of honour to the donors.
