Tourist arrivals in Ayeyawady Region are on the rise again, with the number of visitors reaching 903,237 from January to July 2026, including approximately 12,000 international tourists. Coastal areas in Ayeyawady Region—including Ngwehsaung, Chaungtha, Shwethaungyan, Goyangyi Island, and Sea & Lake beaches—attract the highest number of visitors during the open season, as well as extended public holidays and school vacation periods.
According to the Directorate of Hotels and Tourism (Ayeyawady Region), Ngwehsaung Beach recorded nearly 400,000 domestic tourists and nearly 8,000 international tourists by the end of July, bringing the total number of visitors to more than 401,300. Similarly, Chaungtha and Shwethaungyan beaches welcomed a total of 310,518 visitors, comprising 309,118 domestic tourists and 1,420 international tourists.
Data from the Directorate of Hotels and Tourism show that total tourist arrivals in Ayeyawady Region reached 1,559,841 in 2025, including 19,257 international visitors. — ASH/TH
