AUTHORITIES apprehended three Chinese nationals allegedly involved in online fraud and gambling activities who had illegally entered areas around Myawady in Kayin State through neighbouring countries, including Thailand, and detained them pending investigation and deportation.
From 30 January 2025 to 29 August 2026, a total of 14,767 foreign nationals who had illegally entered Myanmar were investigated, identified and detained. Of these, 13,860 individuals have been systematically repatriated to their respective countries via Thailand in accordance with legal procedures. Of the remaining 907 individuals awaiting repatriation, 689 have been charged under Section 3(1)/13(1) of the Myanmar Immigration (Emergency Provisions) Act and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law, while 218 remain in detention pending repatriation.
The Government continues to work closely with relevant countries to ensure that foreign nationals involved in online fraud, online gambling or other criminal activities are promptly investigated, identified and systematically repatriated in compliance with established legal procedures.
