EROSION prevention and flood protection works continue at the damaged section of the Ngawun River embankment in Laymyethna Township, Ayeyawady Region.
Yesterday, Deputy Minister U Bo Bo Kyaw inspected the progress of the works. Nylon ropes and sandbags are being used to reinforce the right bank of the waterway, while large geobags measuring four metres long, two metres wide and 0.5 metre thick are being placed by the Dagon Samari vessel as the Ngawun River water level falls. As the river remains about 28 feet deep, geotextile bags (geobags) measuring 10 metres, eight metres and two metres long, two metres wide and 0.5 metre thick are being laid in the deep central channel, while steel sheet piles are being driven along the left bank.
The deputy minister also coordinated with officials, technical experts and skilled workers from the Irrigation and Water Utilization Management Department, Bridges Department and Water Resources and Improvement of River Systems Department on measures to prevent further erosion and obstructions to water flow in cooperation with the Ayeyawady Region Government. — MNA/MKKS
