RITER and poet Maung Thin Nwe (Myay Pyant), also known as U Than Lwin, a member of the Thakayta Township Writers Association, died at his mother’s home in Thongwa Township, Yangon Region, at 5:30 pm on 22 August 2026. He was 64.
Maung Thin Nwe was formerly a distribution staff member of the Working People’s Daily (WPD). He also served on the editorial team of Kyun Mya Thar magazine, published by the Thakayta Township Writers Association, for Issue No 9 in 2025.
Members of the literary and arts community, colleagues and friends expressed their condolences and paid tribute to his dedicated contributions to literary activities and his kind and respected character, wishing him a peaceful journey to the afterlife, according to social media posts.
