METEOROLOGIST U Win Naing said that while August will experience heavy rainfall, central and eastern regions of Myanmar are likelihood to be above-normal, out-of-season pre-winter rains during October and November.

Based on an analysis of Meteoblue’s SA-ECMWF Global Model’s Precipitation Anomaly maps, August is forecast to see higher-than-normal rainfall across Sagaing, Mandalay, Magway, Yangon, Bago, and Ayeyawady, as well as Taninthayi and most states. Southeastern Shan and northern Taninthayi are projected to receive around 60 to 100 millimetres of excess rainfall.

In September, northern Kachin, upper Sagaing, northern Chin, and northern Shan may experience about 10 to 40 millimetres more rain than usual. In October, lower Sagaing, Mandalay, Magway, Shan, Kayah, Bago, and northern Kayin could receive 5 to 30 millimetres more rain than normal. Similarly, in November, above-normal rainfall is expected in Shan, Kayah, Mandalay, Sagaing, Magway, Bago, Kayin, and Mon, with out-of-season rains.

By December, nearly the entire country is expected to transition into typical dry winter conditions. In January 2027, all states and regions are forecast to experience a normal winter season. — MT/ZN
