AT the invitation of President Mr Aleksandr Lukashenko of the Republic of Belarus, President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar U Min Aung Hlaing, who is on an official visit to Minsk, Belarus, attended and opened the Myanmar Embassy in the Republic of Belarus at the Diplomatic Hall in Minsk at 4:45 pm local standard time yesterday.

The ceremony was attended by Union ministers and members of the Myanmar delegation accompanying the President, Belarusian Foreign Minister Mr Maxim Ryzhenkov and other government ministers, Myanmar Ambassador to Belarus U Maung Maung Soe and embassy staff, as well as guests.

The national anthems of Myanmar and Belarus were played at the start of the ceremony. President U Min Aung Hlaing, Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Tin Maung Swe and Belarusian Foreign Minister Mr Maxim Ryzhenkov then cut the ceremonial ribbon to officially open the Myanmar Embassy and posed for a commemorative photograph.

The foreign ministers of the two countries subsequently delivered congratulatory remarks. Myanmar Ambassador U Maung Maung Soe then presented a commemorative gift marking the opening of the embassy to President U Min Aung Hlaing, and another commemorative gift was presented to the Belarusian Foreign Minister.

President U Min Aung Hlaing later signed the guest book at the Diplomatic Hall in Minsk. A Belarusian government minister also presented the President with a portrait painting as a gift.

Following the ceremony, President U Min Aung Hlaing and members of the delegation visited the site in Minsk’s diplomatic zone where the Myanmar Embassy is being constructed. The President inspected the progress of construction and gave necessary guidance based on reports from officials.
