Pyithu Hluttaw Deputy Speaker and Myanmar Parliamentary Union (MPU) Member U Maung Maung Ohn met the Speaker, Deputy Speaker and representatives of the Yangon Region Hluttaw yesterday at the Nawarat Hall of the Yangon Region Hluttaw Office.
Meeting attendees watched a documentary highlighting the Union-level Hluttaws, Myanmar’s new political landscape and the country’s promising future. Following the screening, U Maung Maung Ohn delivered the opening remarks, while Yangon Region Hluttaw Speaker U Htay Aung discussed key regional Hluttaw affairs.
The Pyithu Hluttaw Deputy Speaker urged parliamentary representatives to collaborate across the executive, legislative and judicial branches following free and fair elections to advance national development alongside the public while stressing that legislators should raise questions and submit motions in the Yangon Region Hluttaw that directly address the needs of local constituents. He also highlighted the importance of amending, supplementing or enacting laws in line with current affairs, noting that the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw has recently enacted new legislation to combat online fraud, while stressing the need for inter-parliamentary cooperation to deliver tangible benefits to the region and calling for ongoing capacity-building initiatives for both representatives and Hluttaw staff.
Additionally, the Pyithu Hluttaw Deputy Speaker presented commemorative gifts to the Yangon Region Hluttaw Office, toured the regional Hluttaw assembly hall, and warmly greeted the attending regional lawmakers, Defence Services personnel representatives and Hluttaw staff. — MNA/TH
