MEASURES are underway to block water channels caused by the lowering of the Ngawun embankment, using steel sheet piles, geotextile bags (geobags) and sandbags to strengthen vulnerable areas. The work is being carried out jointly by relevant departments, experts, Tatmadaw members, firefighters and local communities under the supervision of deputy ministers from the Ministries of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation and the Construction. Ayeyawady Region Chief Minister U Aye Kyaw inspected the work yesterday afternoon.
The chief minister also met flood evacuees in Thayetkan and Nyaungbinwae villages in Laymyethna Township and assured them that the regional government would continue to provide necessary assistance.
Meanwhile, Wilmar Myanmar Limited and National Infrastructure Holding Co Ltd donated relief items and K50 million in cash, worth more than K163.7 million in total, to flood victims in Ayeyawady Region. The donations included blankets, chickpeas, seasoning powder and cooked fish paste. Cartons of purified drinking water were also donated to flood victims in Laymyethna Township by a Pyithu Hluttaw representative and Galaxy Red Star Co Ltd.
