A ceremony to mark the start of reconstruction work on the Japan Pagoda, which was built on Sagaing Hill as a monument of Myanmar-Japan friendship and cooperation, was held on 15 August.
To restore the quake-damaged pagoda and peace pillars to their original state, the Association of Myanmar-Japan Socio-Economic Development Cooperation (AMJSEDC) has led the fundraising.
The pegging ceremony took place in accordance with religious rituals with the presence of venerable monks. At the ceremony, AMJSEDC chair U Saw Min, secretary U Than Naing and CEC/ EC members, Counsellor of Japanese Embassy Mr Kazuyuki Takemi and Mr Takuya Tazawa from MUFG Bank and the Sagaing Hill trustee board members attended.
