THE ceremonies to present certificates of completion of People’s Military Service Training 4/2024 and to award the People’s Military Service Badge were held at various regional military commands on 12 August, and they were allowed to return to their families and native towns.

Family members and local communities warmly welcomed the returning servicemen with flower garlands, auspicious branches, cash awards and traditional drum performances. Scenes of the welcoming ceremonies were also shared on social media.

During their service, the trainees carried out defence, security, and disaster relief and rescue duties alongside regular servicemen, while receiving their entitled salaries, rations, benefits and other forms of support.

Those who wish to continue serving voluntarily in the military may do so after completing their prescribed service period. Company employees may also be reappointed to their previous or equivalent positions and receive relevant benefits provided by the State.

In addition, the Employment Management Committee on Military Veterans is coordinating with relevant ministries, the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI), and overseas employment agencies to help discharged servicemen access vocational training, employment in government or domestic and overseas companies, and opportunities to establish their own businesses in their communities. — MNA/KTZH
