According to the Ayeyawady Region government, heavy rainfall has caused floodwaters to overflow onto the railway line between the Zayathla Station and the Daikpyet Station in Kyonpyaw Township, Ayeyawady Region.
Relevant authorities have announced the temporary suspension of both up and down train services operating on the Pathein-Kyangin route.
Emergency works are currently being carried out at the affected site, including driving 12-metre steel sheet piles into the ground, placing geobags and sandbags down to the riverbed, and constructing temporary flood-protection barriers and retaining walls. A total workforce of 380 personnel is engaged in the operations around the clock under a rotating day-and-night shift system.
