The Myanmar Rice Federation (MRF) discussed recovery plans for flood-affected paddy acres in Hinthada and Myanaung districts, Ayeyawady Region during a virtual meeting held on 2 August.
The meeting highlighted continuous assessments on the inundation and recession, stockpiling fertilizers, pesticides, and other agricultural inputs to sustain yields once waters recede, systematic distribution plans, replanting with fast growing rice, pre-raising rice seedlings in trays or nurseries to transplant once water level drops, using broadcasting or seeders if transplanting is not viable, and securing seeds for winter crops such as black gram and soya bean.
Ayeyawady has 3.7 million acres of monsoon paddy, with flooding affecting only around 0.31 per cent of the total acres. Direct replanting or crop substitution assistance will be needed in locations where flood water recedes slowly.
MRF and its member companies are coordinating with the regional government, regional Hluttaw representatives, and the regional Agriculture Department to deliver aid, the federation announced.
