AUTHORITIES are working with local communities in the Inlay Lake region to replace direct waste disposal systems with bio-septic tanks as part of efforts to protect the environment and improve sanitation.
The Department of Rural Development under the Ministry of Cooperatives and Rural Development is implementing bio-septic tank replacement projects, communal water supply projects and rehabilitation programmes for earthquake-affected villages in 15 villages, including Heya Ywama Village in the Inlay area.
Union Minister for Cooperatives and Rural Development U Myo Zaw Thein inspected the ongoing projects and met with local residents, urging households and communities to actively participate in adopting improved sanitation systems to ensure the long-term conservation of Inlay Lake.
He also stressed the need for cooperation among relevant departments to effectively implement environmental protection measures.
During the visit, the Union Minister provided project funds to village committees for rural development initiatives, including the Emerald Green Village Project, rural economic development fund establishment, village development projects and Model Village programmes in Nyaungshwe Township.
He also met with and encouraged trainees attending a basic sewing course at the Ethnic Affairs and Vocational Training Centre in Ayethaya. —MNA/KZL
