TOURISM is an important sector in increasing the income of a country. Countries that earn the highest revenues from international tourism have been developing and promoting this sector. Countries around the world refer to tourism as a “smokeless industry”. Through tourism, continuous income is generated from various sectors, contributing to the growth of the national economy.

Myanmar is located in a strategically important position within the region and possesses many prominent religious edifices, ancient cultural heritage buildings, and beautiful natural surroundings that attract international tourists. The country also has abundant tourism resources, including cultural heritage sites, natural scenic attractions, beaches and coastal areas, as well as the diverse traditional cultures and customs of various ethnic nationalities, catching the attention of travellers.

Most areas of the country have regained stability and peace, except for some areas. Therefore, the Government, relevant authorities, and organizations and businesses related to tourism are carrying out the restoration and preservation of ancient cultural heritage sites and buildings. These ancient cultural heritage sites reflect the country’s rich historical traditions and high cultural identity, and they will be able to attract a large number of domestic and international tourists.

The government and the private sector are jointly working to expand flight services to certain destinations and upgrade airports. In addition, efforts are being made to facilitate visa arrangements, ensure safe and secure travel, promote travel insurance purchases, and streamline financial transactions and payment processes. Local authorities need to systematically develop tourism products based on destinations, identify and promote places showcasing cultural heritage, highlight prominent year-round festivals, ethnic New Year festivals and traditional cultural events, and develop travel itineraries that are of interest to tourists.

Private tourism entrepreneurs need to systematically conduct effective marketing and promotional activities to develop tourism destinations in Myanmar that are competitive with those in neighbouring countries. All Union ministries, regional government bodies, and tourism entrepreneurs must make concerted efforts to ensure that international tourists gain a better understanding of Myanmar’s true situation and realities.

Therefore, as tourism is an important sector for increasing national income, all stakeholders must make concerted efforts to effectively utilize Myanmar’s tourism resources and promote the development of the tourism industry, which is a smokeless industry. Through these efforts, continuous income can be generated from various sectors, contributing to the steady growth of the national economy and the improvement of socioeconomic conditions.
