ACCORDING to the discussions held during the “Coordination Meeting on Reviewing Egg Production and Distribution,” relevant stakeholders will coordinate with egg distributors to ensure that egg prices do not continue to rise.
The coordination meeting, attended by executives of the Myanmar Livestock Federation (MLF), private stakeholders, and government officials, was held on 17 July at the MLF headquarters.
Attendees analyzed several factors contributing to the current situation, including rising production costs, the imbalance between layer chick production and demand in previous years, decreased production over the past few months caused by disease outbreaks, and price fluctuations resulting from a decline in supply.
Participants also suggested ways to ensure the long-term sustainability of layer farmers and distributors while keeping costs affordable for consumers.
Furthermore, the MLF stated that they will continue ongoing initiatives to ensure eggs’ affordable prices. The federation and relevant associations will work together to address issues across the supply chain to ensure stable production, as well as submit reports to the relevant authorities. Finally, it was noted that a meeting between the Myanmar Chicken and Duck Farmers Association and its member groups will be held soon to conduct a comprehensive review of the entire poultry sector. — MT/ZN
