Upgrading the Anisakhan Airport is one of the important infrastructure projects of the State during the implementation of the first 100-day plan of the new government, said President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar U Min Aung Hlaing at the ceremony to commission the Anisakhan Airport into service in PyinOoLwin yesterday morning.
At the inauguration ceremony of the new airport, Union Minister for Transport and for Digital Development and Communications U Mya Tun Oo, Union Minister for Defence General Tun Aung, Union Minister for Construction U Myo Thant and Mandalay Region Chief Minister U Myo Aung cut the ribbon to open the ceremony.
The President unveiled the signboard of the airport building.
Speaking on the occasion, the President said that the government prioritizes the aviation transport sector, playing a key role in the economic development of the State with efforts to expand the infrastructure and construction projects, including airports.
He revealed that a total of three international airports and 28 domestic airports are being operated for regular flights across the nation. Of them, he noted that the newly inaugurated Anisakhan Airport will fortify the domestic airport networks. He stressed that the government is implementing PyinOoLwin as a hill resort city, cherry city, coffee city, health city and education city. The upgrade of the Anisakhan airport project has been implemented since 2023 to enable travellers to pay visits in a short time.
In doing so, the President recounted that the airport lounge was facilitated with a two-storey steel structure which can handle arrivals and departures of 100,000 travellers per year. Moreover, the airport was equipped with an apron and an aviation control tower in addition to the necessary equipment.
That is why the President highlighted that the Anisakhan Airport will be a strategic gateway of aviation transport to the initiatives to build the Yadanabon Cyber City as the world-class Silicon Valley to improve the ICT Sector of the State as well as the tourism sector of the PyinOoLwin region.
Thanks to the airport, he added that the easy access of domestic and foreign experts and investors to Yadanabon Cyber City quickly and smoothly within a short period of time will significantly contribute to accelerating the country’s technological development and the growth of the digital economy sector.
Concerning the local business, the President underlined that high-quality agricultural products such as flowers, coffee and strawberry products of the PyinOoLwin region can be distributed to domestic markets as well as foreign countries from time to time through the air cargo & cold chain logistics system.
In revealing the plans, the President said that the Anisakhan Airport will be upgraded to handle the landing and takeoff of heavy aeroplanes in the future, and the airport will be facilitated with the necessary infrastructure to manage flights better.
Also present at the ceremony were Union ministers, Chief of the General Staff (Army, Navy and Air) General Ko Ko Oo, the commander of the Central Command, deputy ministers and officials
