U Nay Min Tun, Minister for Rakhine Ethnic Affairs of the Yangon Region government, said action had been taken against ten licensed tour companies for failing to meet their responsibilities.
The statement was made during the Yangon Region government’s response to Hluttaw representatives’ questions on 6 July, which highlighted recent fraud cases involving the misuse of licensed travel companies’ names. Representatives called for stricter supervision of tourism licence issuance and stronger action against online and in-person scams targeting customers of prepaid travel services.
