THE Myanmar National Human Rights Commission (MNHRC) and the Myanmar Construction Entrepreneurs Federation (MCEF) jointly organized and held a seminar on business and human rights on 18 June 2026, at the Federation’s premises in Thuwunna Township, Yangon, in a hybrid format.
The event was attended by MNHRC Chairman U Thit Linn Ohn and Commission members, the deputy director-general of the Commission Office and relevant subject-matter officials and staff, as well as MCEF President U Shein Win and 50 entrepreneurs, totalling 50 participants. At the outset of the seminar, the MNHRC chairman delivered the opening remarks.
He stated that this seminar represents the first-ever collaborative effort between the Commission and the Federation, on business and human rights awareness. He emphasized that business operators, including those in the construction sector, must implement preventive measures to ensure that their activities do not infringe upon the environment and human rights. He further noted that respecting human rights is not only a duty but also a crucial factor in building successful and sustainable businesses.
Therefore, it is essential for their enterprises to be enduring and prosperous, as this will enable them to contribute to and support the nation’s economic development and social welfare. Following this, MCEF President U Shein Win expressed his gratitude for the successful holding of the seminar. Subsequently, Commission Member Dr Daw Nu Nu Yee delivered a presentation on the fundamental nature of human rights; Commission Member Dr Daw Tin Htay Ei put forward the presentation of the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission and the relationship between human rights and the environment; and Deputy Director-General Dr Khine Khine Win discussed business and human rights.
After the presentations, the speakers responded to and clarified questions raised by the attendees before concluding the seminar.
