The tourism sector of three ASEAN countries, rich in ancient cultural heritage and nature-based tourism during the open season, will be developed through proper collaboration, according to the Myanmar Tourism Federation.
The development of the tourism industry can only be achieved successfully through cooperation between the government and the private sector. Travel agencies have pointed out that the transportation sector plays a crucial role in enabling tourists from one country to travel conveniently to another. By promoting tourism transportation cooperation among Myanmar, Cambodia, and Thailand, international tourists will gain greater awareness of the ASEAN countries’ ancient heritage sites, traditional cultures, and natural beauty.
“To develop Myanmar’s tourism sector, direct flight connections with countries that generate high tourist arrivals are essential. If countries cooperate, it will benefit everyone, and more tourists may visit during the coming open season. The federation is also striving to establish direct travel links with Cambodia. Cambodia receives a large number of tourists annually, with nearly five million visitors each year to Angkor Wat. If there are direct airline connections, tourists will flock to Myanmar’s tourist destinations, including Bagan. If this plan is implemented through cooperation among Myanmar, Cambodia, and Thailand, tourist arrivals in the three countries will certainly increase. It also depends on the government’s support and the strong efforts of travel agencies,” said U Yan Win, president of the Myanmar Tourism Federation.
It is necessary to organize more tourism attraction forums that can support tourism promotion.
The Myanmar Tourism Federation is reportedly making efforts to implement such activities in line with tourism promotion initiatives carried out by foreign countries.
ASEAN countries with high tourist arrivals have continuously attracted visitors due to policies such as arrival visa services, visa exemptions, high-quality tourism services, and convenient use of bank cards. These factors encourage repeat visits and positive word-of-mouth recommendations, resulting in a steady flow of tourists to Cambodia and Thailand every year. As part of promoting the tourism industry of Myanmar, the Mekong Tourism Forum and related meetings are currently being held with the experts from China, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Vietnam and Myanmar at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Yangon from 16 to 19 June.
