A delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic Mr Thongsavan Phomvihane paid a courtesy call on President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar U Min Aung Hlaing at the Presidential Palace Reception Hall in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday morning.
At the meeting, they frankly discussed the necessities for ASEAN countries and regional countries not to disregard the wishes of the people who voted in support of the government and will of the Hluttaw representatives, the pledge of the government to initiate the peace restoration in Myanmar within five years, and this visit of the Lao delegation to further strengthen friendly relations between the two countries, the invitation extended by the Lao President to the Myanmar President to pay a State visit to Laos, and the support of Laos for the elected government of Myanmar.
Moreover, they cordially exchanged views on the promotion of cooperation in political, economic, education, health, culture and trade sectors between the two countries, the trade promotion between the two countries through the Myanmar-Lao Friendship Bridge, the enhancement of friendly ties and cooperation between the peoples from two countries, bilateral cooperation in multiple sectors to boost relations with regional countries and ASEAN countries, implementation of the ASEAN Five-Point Statement by Myanmar, and efforts to overcome challenges between Myanmar and Laos.
After the meeting, the President and the Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs exchanged commemorative gifts and had documentary photos taken together with the attendees.
Also present at the meeting were Union Minister at the President’s Office U Khin Maung Yi, Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Tin Maung Swe and officials. The Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs was accompanied by Lao Ambassador to Myanmar Mr Bounphieng Chanthavong and delegation members.
